Israel Physics Olympiad Team

The International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) is an annual competition for teenagers focusing on a variety of topics from the world of physics. The competition requires the ability to solve complex and creative theoretical problems, as well as to conduct practical physics laboratory experiments. Members of the team must demonstrate the ability to solve problems creatively and independently, high-level academic learning skills, personal and group motivation, and a high level of commitment. The first International Physics Olympiad was held in 1967 with delegations from 5 countries participating. Today, over 85 countries participate in the Olympiad. Israel joined in 1994. In 2019, Israel hosted the International Physics Olympiad.

שלב א'

שלב א' במיונים לנבחרת הפיזיקה תשפ"ז יתקיים בשני מועדים:

מועד ראשון: 17.2.2026 | ל' שבט תשפ"ו | בין השעות 9:00-14:00

מועד שני: 26.2.2026 | ט' אדר תשפ"ו | בין השעות 9:00-14:00

שימו לב: שלב א' במיונים לנבחרת הפיזיקה של ישראל יתקיים השנה בנוסח אחיד לכל הגילים, הן לתלמידי כיתות ט'-י' והן לתלמידי כיתות י"א (זאת בניגוד לתהליכי המיון משנים קודמות, בהם התקיימה הפרדה ברמת המבחנים).

דגשים חשובים:

המבחן הינו כלל ארצי, ומיועד לכלל תלמידות ותלמידי ישראל בכיתות ט'-י"א (ללא תלות במקצוע הגברה/מגמה בבית הספר).
המבחן הינו מבחן מקוון, וניתן להיבחן מבית הספר או מהבית, בשפות עברית או ערבית. משך המבחן הינו 90 דקות.
הכניסה למבחן היא דרך אתר משרד החינוך, באמצעות סיסמת "הזדהות אחידה" אישית. אין צורך להרשם למבחן מראש.
חומרי הכנה למבחן ניתן למצוא באתר הנבחרת ובאתר משרד החינוך. יודגש כי המבחן אינו דורש ידע מעמיק, אלא מבוסס על עקרונות פשוטים, אינטואיציה ויכולת חשיבה יצירתית

שלב ב'

שלב ב' במיונים לנבחרת הפיזיקה יתקיים ב-3.5.2026.

לכל למבחן יוזמנו תלמידות ותלמידים אשר עברו בהצלחה את שלב א' הרלוונטי לשכבת הגיל.
המבחן יערך במספר מוקדים ברחבי הארץ.
שלב זה הוא מבחן הבודק יכולת חשיבה מהירה וידע בפיזיקה, וכולל שאלות אמריקאיות (שאלות רב-ברירה) בלבד.

שלב ג'

מחנה ממיין, יערך בחופשת הקיץ בין התאריכים- יעודכן בקרוב.

למבחן יוזמנו תלמידות ותלמידים אשר עברו בהצלחה את שלב ב'.
המבחן יתקיים באופן פיזי, באוניברסיטת בן-גוריון בנגב.
כל המידע בנוגע למבחן, לרבות חומרי ההכנה, ימסרו לתלמידות ולתלמידים באמצעות צוות הנבחרת באוניברסיטת בן-גוריון בנגב.

שלבי המיון:

כ-50 תלמידות ותלמידים אשר יעברו את כלל שלבי המיון יתקבלו לנבחרת ישראל בפיזיקה. במסגרת הפעילות תתבצע הכשרה הן בפן התאורטי והן בפן המעשי, כאשר המצטיינות והמצטיינים מבין משתתפי הנבחרת ישתתפו בתחרויות בינלאומיות בפיזיקה. במסגרת אימוני הנבחרת יתקיימו מחנות אימונים הכוללים לינה, הרצאות, תרגולים אישיים וקבוצתיים, משימות למידה וקריאה מקצועית רבה. הפעילות בנבחרת מדגישה מוטיבציה לרכישת ידע בנושאים שונים בפיזיקה ויכולת להתמודדות עם בעיות תאורטיות וניסיוניות, לרבות פיתוח כישורי עבודה במעבדה.לכל תלמידה ותלמיד בנבחרת מוצמד חונך, שתפקידו לסייע ולעקוב אחר עבודתו של התלמיד והישגיו. הנבחרת מדגישה בפעילות גם את הנדבך החברתי, ומחנות הפעילות כוללים גם פעילויות גיבוש והפוגה.

פעילות הנבחרת:

במסגרת פעילות הכנת הנבחרת לתחרות ברמה הבינלאומית הגבוהה ביותר, חברות וחברי הנבחרת ניגשים לתחרויות מקדימות ותחרויות אימון - תחרויות בינלאומיות בהשתתפות מדינות רבות. השתתפות בתחרויות אלו מאפשרת לתלמידות ולתלמידי הנבחרת לבחון את הידע והיכולות שלהם בהשוואה לחבריהם ממדינות אחרות, לתרגל היבחנות בתנאי תחרות ולחוש את האווירה הייחודית לתחרות בינלאומית בפיזיקה.

התחרות האסייתית בפיזיקה - APhO (Asian Physics Olympiad): לשנת 2026 תתקיים בדרום קוריאה. תחרות זו מתקיימת מידי שנה באחת ממדינות אסיה, ומתבצעת במתכונת של האולימפיאדה הבינלאומית וכוללת מבחן תיאורטי ומבחן ניסוי.
התחרות האירופאית בפיזיקה - EuPhO (European Physics Olympiad): לשנת 2026 תתקיים בשבדיה.

תחרויות מקדימות ותחרויות נוספות:

Objectives:

Promoting Israel’s achievements and the personal achievements of the participants representing Israel in the International Physics Olympiad.
Stimulating interest in learning physics.
Cultivating and improving the knowledge of students from the high school level to the level required for the International Olympiad.
Increasing the number of participants in high-level scientific activity in physics.
Encouraging young people to choose physics as a meaningful future pursuit.‎

Screening Process:

Stage A
Stage A of the tryouts for the Israel Physics Team for the 2026-2027 school year will take place on two dates:
First date: 17.2.2026 | 30 Shevat 5786 | Between 9:00-14:00
Second date: 26.2.2026 | 9 Adar 5786 | Between 9:00-14:00

Please note: This year, Stage A of the tryouts for the Israel Physics Team will be held in a uniform format for all ages, both for 9th-10th grade students and for 11th grade students (compared to the selection processes of previous years with separate test levels).

Important highlights:

The test is nationwide and intended for all students in Israel in grades 9-11 (regardless of their major/specialization at school).
This online test can be taken from school or home, in Hebrew or Arabic. The test lasts 90 minutes.
Access to the test is through the Ministry of Education website, using a personal Unified Login password. There is no need to register for the test in advance.
Preparation materials for the test can be found on the team's website and the Ministry of Education's website. It should be emphasized that the test does not require in-depth knowledge, but is based on simple principles, intuition, and creative thinking ability.

Stage B
Stage B of the tryouts for the Physics Team will take place on 3.5.2026.

Important highlights:

Students who successfully passed the relevant Stage A for their age group will be invited to the test.
The test will be held at several locations across the country.
This stage is a test that checks quick thinking ability and knowledge of physics, and includes multiple-choice questions only.

Stage C
Selection camp, will be held during the summer vacation between the dates - to be updated soon.

Important highlights:
Students who successfully passed Stage B will be invited to the test.
The test will take place physically at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.
All information regarding the test, including preparation materials, will be provided to the students by the team staff at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.

Team activity:

About 50 students who pass all stages of the selection process will be accepted into the Israel Physics Team. As part of the activity, theoretical and practical training will be conducted. Outstanding participants of the team will participate in the international physics competitions. The team's training includes training camps that involve overnight stays, lectures, individual and group exercises, learning assignments, and extensive professional reading. The team's activity emphasizes motivation to acquire knowledge in various physics topics and the ability to cope with theoretical and experimental problems, including the development of laboratory work skills. Each student in the team is assigned a mentor, whose role is to assist and monitor the student's work and achievements. The team also emphasizes the social aspect in its activities, and the training camps include team-building and recreational activities.

Preliminary competitions and additional competitions:

As part of the team's preparation for the highest level of international competition, team members participate in preliminary and training competitions including international contests featuring many countries. Participation in these competitions allows the students to test their knowledge and abilities against their peers from other countries, practice taking exams under competition conditions, and experience the unique atmosphere of an international physics competition.

The Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO): The 2026 competition will be held in South Korea. This competition takes place annually in an Asian country and follows the International Olympiad format, including a theoretical exam and an experimental exam.

The European Physics Olympiad (EuPhO): The 2026 competition will be held in Sweden.‎
