Israel Mathematics Olympiad Team

The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is an annual competition for teenagers focusing on a variety of topics from the world of mathematics. As part of the competition, the ability to solve creative problems at different levels of difficulty and in diverse mathematical subjects (such as geometry, combinatorics, number theory, and more) is required. The first Mathematical Olympiad was held in 1959 with delegations from 7 countries participating. Today, over 100 countries participate in the Olympiad. Israel joined in 1979.

מטרות:

שלב א'

שלב זה הוא מבחן מקוון הניתן לבצע דרך בתי הספר או מהבית, וכולל שאלות בתחומים שונים במתמטיקה. ההשתתפות פתוחה ומומלצת לכל תלמידה ותלמיד המעוניין בכך. מידי שנה משתתפים בשלב זה אלפי תלמידות ותלמידים מכל רחבי הארץ.

שלב א' במבחני המיון תשפ"ז יתקיימו בשני מועדים:

דגשים חשובים:

המבחן הינו כלל ארצי, ומיועד לכלל תלמידות ותלמידי ישראל מכיתות ט'-י"א.
שלב א' יתקיים בשני מועדים, וניתן להשתתף במועד אחד או בשני המועדים, כאשר התוצאה הגבוהה מבין המבחנים תחשב.
המבחן הינו מבחן מקוון, וניתן להיבחן מבית הספר או מהבית, בשפות עברית או ערבית. משך המבחן הינו 90 דקות.
הכניסה למבחן היא דרך אתר משרד החינוך, באמצעות סיסמת "הזדהות אחידה" אישית. אין צורך להרשם למבחן מראש.
חומרי הכנה למבחן ניתן למצוא באתר הנבחרת ובאתר משרד החינוך. יודגש כי המבחן אינו דורש ידע קודם.

למבחן יוזמנו תלמידות ותלמידים אשר עברו בהצלחה את שלב ב', וכן תלמידות ותלמידים אשר השתתפו בתחרויות מתמטיות אחרות ועמדו ברף הקבלה (למידע נוסף על תחרויות אלו והליך המיון באמצעותן - לחצו כאן).
המבחן יתקיים באופן פיזי, במכון ויצמן למדע.
כל המידע בנוגע למבחן, לרבות חומרי ההכנה, ימסרו לתלמידות ולתלמידים באמצעות צוות הנבחרת במכון ויצמן למדע.

שלבי המיון:

במסגרת פעילות הכנת הנבחרת לתחרות ברמה הבינלאומית הגבוהה ביותר, חברות וחברי הנבחרת ניגשים לתחרויות מקדימות ותחרויות אימון - תחרויות בינלאומיות בהשתתפות מדינות רבות. השתתפות בתחרויות אלו מאפשרת לתלמידות ולתלמידי הנבחרת לבחון את הידע והיכולות שלהם בהשוואה לחבריהם ממדינות אחרות, לתרגל היבחנות בתנאי תחרות ולחוש את האווירה הייחודית לתחרות בינלאומית במתמטיקה.

התחרות האירופאית לנערות במתמטיקה- EGMO (European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad): תתקיים ב - יעודכן בקרוב. התחרות דומה בתכניה ובמבנה שלה לאולימפיאדה הבינלאומית (ה-IMO), ומהווה הזדמנות לנערות בעלות כישרון יוצא דופן במתמטיקה להיפגש עם בנות גילן סביב עניין משותף - המתמטיקה.
תחרות המאסטרים הרומנית במתמטיקה- RMM (Romanian Master of Mathematics): תתקיים ברומניה, ב-יעודכן בקרוב. זוהי תחרות בינלאומית המתקיימת מידי שנה ברומניה, ומשמשת כהכנה לתחרות ה-IMO.

תחרויות מקדימות ותחרויות נוספות:

Objectives:

Promoting Israel’s achievements and the personal achievements of participants representing Israel in the International Mathematical Olympiad.
Expanding the mathematical knowledge of high school students. Promoting the field of mathematics and motivation for excellent and intensive engagement in the field.
Developing the ability to analyze problems and find solutions, and enriching mathematical thinking and understanding. Encouraging creativity and out of the box thinking.

Screening Process:

Stage A
This stage is an online test that can be taken through schools or from home, and includes questions in various fields of mathematics. Participation is open and recommended for every interested student. Every year, thousands of students from across the country participate in this stage.

Stage A of the 2026 selection tests will take place on two dates:
First date: 4.2.2026 | 17 Shevat 5786 | Between 9:00-14:00
Second date: 19.2.2026 | 2 Adar 5786 | Between 9:00-14:00

Important highlights:

The test is nationwide and intended for all students in Israel in grades 9-11.
Stage A takes place on two dates. Students can participate in one or both dates, with the higher score being counted.
This is an online test, and can be taken from school or from home, in Hebrew or Arabic. The test lasts 90 minutes.
Access to the test is through the Ministry of Education website, using a personal Unified Login password. There is no need to register for the test in advance.
Preparation materials for the test can be found on the team's website and the Ministry of Education's website. It should be emphasized that the test does not require prior knowledge.

Stage B
Stage B of the selection tests for the mathematics team will take place on 1.5.2026.

Students who successfully passed Stage B will be invited to the test, as well as students who participated in other mathematical competitions and met the admission threshold (for more information on these competitions and the selection process through them, click here).
The test will be in person at the Weizmann Institute of Science.
All information regarding the test, including preparation materials, will be provided to students by the team staff at the Weizmann Institute of Science.

Preliminary competitions and additional competitions:

As part of the team's preparation for the highest level of international competition, team members participate in preliminary and training competitions, including international competitions with the participation of many countries. These competitions allow students to test their knowledge and abilities in comparison to their peers from other countries, practice taking exams under competition conditions, and experience the unique atmosphere of an international mathematics competition.

European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO): Will take place on - to be updated soon. The competition is similar in its content and structure to the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), and serves as an opportunity for girls with exceptional talent in mathematics to meet their peers around their shared interest of mathematics.

Romanian Master of Mathematics (RMM): Will take place in Romania, on - to be updated soon. This is an international competition held annually in Romania, which serves as preparation for the IMO competition.
